Environmental facilities
E.ON Benelux does everything possible to reduce the environmental impact of the power plant. Of the total budget of some € 1.2 billion, 25% is allocated to environmental installations. The most important of these are:
- a flue gas desulphurization plant (ROI)
- an installation for removing nitrogen oxides (DeNOx)
- an electrostatic filter for the removal of fly ash
- a waste water purification unit
Furthermore, the installation is designed so that it can be integrated with an installation for capture of CO2. This type of installation will be most extensive; hence it is important that space is reserved for it on the power station site, near the stack. Moreover, essential connection points will have been realized during the construction.
Aside from this, the plant will be prepared to supply heat to surrounding areas.
For example this will include industrial facilities, market gardeners and urban heating. This possibly reduces the drain of cooling water.
