Rotterdam, 31 May 2006 – Last year E.ON Benelux equipped its electricity generating station on the Langegracht, in the city of Leiden, with a new gas turbine installation. The new installation has a higher output and lower emissions. Thanks to the new installation – which recently went online – the gas-fired power station can continue in operation for many years ahead.
The Leiden unit is a gas-fired electricity generator supplying the national grid and the Leiden urban heating network. The unit had two outdated Rolls Royce gas turbine installations. Over the past year these were replaced with new General Electric gas turbines. Conversion started in 2005.
The new installation structurally increases the power station’s output and reliability. Emissions of NOx and CO2 are also substantially reduced and now meet the toughest Dutch regulations on emissions and European standards for new gas turbines.
Safety was a major priority during the project. To this end there were safety courses for employees of contractors.
This investment meshes in with the plans of E.ON Benelux to secure a leading position in the Dutch power market.
