Rotterdam, 29 November 2006 – The heating grid in The Hague will also be provided with heat for the next 15 years – courtesy of E.ON Benelux. E.ON Benelux has agreed a new contract with ENECO Energie to supply heat in the period 1 January 2008 to 1 January 2023, from its combined heat and power plant and hot water boilers in the city. ENECO will take care of distribution to the heat customers. The Hague power station has supplied heat right from the start of district heating in The Hague in the later 1970s. The contracts for district heating also feature an in-depth modernisation of the Hague plant, worth approximately € 70 million. This investment will be covered by E.ON.

E.ON Benelux (previously EZH) has been the supplier of district heating to the network in The Hague for more than 20 years. Until now, the heat has been produced in a combined heat and power plant producing 76 MW of heat and 78 MW of electricity. The plant has been operational since 1982 and it is time for modernization. The new contract with ENECO Energie offers E.ON a solid commercial basis for extensive investment.

Modernisation of the plant on the city’s De Constant Rebecque Square comprises the installation of two new gas turbines, adjustments to steam boilers, new electric generators and new control equipment. E.ON will be using state-of-the-art technology to increase efficiency and to further reduce the impact on the environment, which is already low with gas turbines.

The present contract for the supply of heat by E.ON Benelux to ENECO Energie’s heating network runs until the end of 2007. ENECO Energie and E.ON have reached agreements on a contract to supply heat to both The Hague and Rotterdam.

E.ON Benelux heeft onlangs de milieuvergunning ontvangen, zodat met de vernieuwing van de centrale in Den Haag kan worden gestart.

Recently, E.ON Benelux has received the permit to start on site activities. To safeguard the supply, the operational modernisation will be carried out in the summer of 2007. According to schedule, the power plant will be fully operational before winter 2007-2008, so customers will not suffer any consequences.
